The Academy's PGR Development Offer
Our PGR development offering has been conceived with PGRs at its heart, following consultations with current PGRs, supervisors and numerous internal and external stakeholders. The new programme includes in-person workshops, masterclasses, bootcamps, webinars, online modules, practice-based sessions, Faculty Forums, and self-paced resources tailored to PGRs at every stage of the research journey. The comprehensive PGR Development offer includes the following:
- The Central PGR Programme: Over 100 sessions delivered via online modules and resources, workshops, masterclasses, bootcamps, webinars, Faculty Forums, practical applications and many more.
- PGR Development Canvas: Access a wealth of online development resources, inluding self-paced modules tailored to every stage of the PGR process. You can find information on how to complete your Development Needs Analysis (DNA) on this course. All PGRS are automatically enrolled on registration or you can self-enrol using this link.
- Making an Impact: The Academy’s award-winning annual programme that will boost your research impact and knowledge exchange potential.
- PGR-Postdoc Buddy Scheme: Meet new colleagues, expand your networks and enrich your experience of the University’s research culture in an informal setting.
- LEAP: The PGR Leadership Programme: Develop the tools, ideas and practical strategies required to lead authentically with purpose, projects and people. Places will be limited and information about the application process will be soon published here.
- Three Minute Thesis (3MT®): Compete to represent the University at national level by creating a compelling spoken presentation of your research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes
- Annual PGR Development Conference: Join PGRs across all disciplines to exchange insights; engage in collaborative discussions; consider career development; and forge meaningful connections.
- Pop-up PGR Development Sessions: responsive pop-up development activities run throughout the year. These will be advertised in due course on the central programme page, and via the PGR Development Canvas site announcements.
- The PGRDevNet: A network for all PGRs that publishes weekly e-bulletins, run events and activities, and provides a voice for PGRs within the research community. For any PGR community-related events, please keep an eye on the PGR Development Canvas site announcements.

PGR Supervisor Development
The Academy's PGR Development team work closely with Academic Development colleagues specialising in PGR Supervisor Development. The PGR Supervisors Network is aimed at supervisors on all Postgraduate Research Degrees, including PhD, MPhil, MD and Professional Doctorates. The PGR Supervisors Network Canvas site includes a wide range of training and support for PGR supervisors, including the compulsory online training modules for new supervisors and internal examiners, as well as a wide range of further developmental support.
